Community Services by Lecturers of DIV Nursing Study Program And Field Practice of Health Promotion Study Course

To improve the quality of graduates in DIV Nursing of Malang and DIV Nursing of Lawang, it is conducted through teaching and learning process in the classroom and through practical learning program or outdoor class activity in the community.

Health Promotion and sociology courses in nursing are one of the subjects that interact directly with the public in its application that the program practice or outdoor class activity have become  one of the alternatives in the development of the learning process.

Community service is one of lecturers and students duties in implementing The Three Pillars of Higher Education, both the aforementioned activities are part of the dynamics of the activity of Malang State Health Polytechnic community

 

In May-June 2014, the DIV Nursing Study Program of Malang and DIV Nursing Study Program of Lawang carried out community service in Mulyoarjo, District of Lawang Malang. The activity was conducted integrated for a month that includes 1) Promoting Health education entitled " Clean and Healthy Behavior and recognize the prevention of Infectious Diseases “. 2) Training of health workers who provide skills “Caring wounds “and “Handling Trauma. 3) Revitalizing health cadres through interactive dialogue and lecturers in order to empower the community and solve health problems in the Mulyoarjo. 4) Social Service by lecturer for poor families by providing food packets in efforts to improve nutrition, 5) Conducting mass circumcision in cooperation with the Khoiru Ummah Foundation, Lawang for Orphans and citizens around.

 

The Mulyoarjo is one of the villages that are adjacent to DIV Nursing of Lawang. Therefore, it was necessary to establish cooperation in the development of community health by involving integrated academic activities and community participation. In addition to community service, lectures also held student field practice in the village to apply health promotion and nursing sociology followed by 118 students. This learning approach model provides a direct overview of the actual conditions of social dynamics, tradition and the process of social interaction of students with the community in health promotion efforts.

 

The Implementation of field practice was held integrated with community service lecturers, so that the practice becomes more varies. Not only the social-approach process carried out by the students through a sociological approach, but also conducted health education promotion at the family level.

 

Field training activities and community service began with a welcoming ceremony in the form of acceptance Students and Lecturers by Head village of Mulyoarjo on June 7, 2014 which was then continued by homes visit through home care approach, interviews, health problems discussions, a simple medical examination by student. Furthermore, on June 14, 2014 followed by the organization of training cadres, cadre revitalization, and social service by lecturers, Event was concluded with mass circumcision on June 22, 2014.

 

Participation of head village, village officials, cadres and the community were quite enthusiastic with the organization of this event. The head village hoped that the campus kept providing information update about the development of health public in his village. Enthusiastic participants of mass circumcision that was organized makes the participant reached 73 children and a baby.

 

The existence of the State Health Polytechnic Campus II in Lawang, creates positive opinion for the community surrounding the campus which later involves the community to participate in other campus activities. (Editor: Hanan Ab)
